Delete your facebook account.. forever!

Nope, I am not here to lecture you about why you should delete your Facebook account and live a minimalistic life or how it transforms you into a miserable web surfing zombie who feeds on useless news feeds and status updates (dumb and stupid, most of the times). I am leaving it all up to you to figure out why you should do that. But if you are really in need to delete your Facebook account permanently, I hope this post will be able help you.

Deactivate: Facebook lets you deactivate your account temporarily. To deactivate your Facebook account first log in to it. Click the Account Menu at the top right corner of the page. Choose Account Settings from the drop-down and you'll land on the General Account Settings page. Click Security in the left panel and go to Security Settings page. You'll find a link 'Deactivate your account' at the bottom of all the items. Click it and fill up the form to confirm deactivation.

On submitting the form another form will pop out asking you to confirm your password. Provide your password to confirm deactivation. A security check captcha will pop up. On receiving the correct captcha code facebook logs you out automatically and redirects you to the log in page of facebook. You can reactivate your account anytime, by simply logging in to your account.

Delete Permanently:  Permanent deletion of your Facebook account means what it literally means, that is permanent and complete deletion of your account and all the associated data. There will be no going back from here. If you'd like to download a copy of your Facebook data, you can do so from your General Account Settings page while logged into your account. Find the link with text 'Download a copy of your Facebook data' at the bottom. Click on it to create a personal archive of your Facebook photos, posts and messages etc. There is option to create an 'expanded archive' also. However, it will take some time (even days..) to create the archive and make it available for download. When you are logged into your account, click this link to delete your Facebook account. Confirm your request for deletion. Your Facebook account will stay 'deactivated' for two weeks and after this period it will be permanently deleted. If you want your account back log in again within this period.
